What I love about my kids this week...

Even though I'm sick as a dog this week, I can still appreciate the subtle things the kids do that absolutely melt my heart. Every night Ainsley insists on at least 3 Bubba kisses before going to bed. And if you ask her, "Ainsley did you do that?" She will counter with a very adamant, "I DID NOT!!" It is so cute the way she says it. If you ask her, "Ainsley guess what?" She responds, "I love you!" She has the most precious little smile and as always, she smiles with her entire face and body. Big grin, squinty eyes, shrugged shoulders, it is so sweet and I want to just eat her up!

Ian's crowning moment of the week happened Sat. night. I was needing to run to Walgreens for some milk and I went outside to get in the car and Brady and Ian were outside looking at the stars. As I walked up, Ian ran up and said, "Mommy, is Uranus brown or blue?" Alas, the joke is still lost on the child and it was terribly hard to keep a straight face and I had to explain that I wasn't sure what colors Uranus is. Someday, when he actually gets this joke, I will tell him these stories and tell him how hard it was for me to keep from losing it!

Fun at park day!

Here are my two super cute kiddos! Ian is sporting his awesome tie-dyed Dinosaur Valley shirt (there is no way to lose sight of him in a shirt that loud!) And check Miss Ainsley, future John Deere tractor model?? Scary!

BUSTED!

You always know when she's quiet there is something going on! I walked through the kitchen to look for her and this is what I found! Ian was never a climber, but I have found this one on the kitchen table and pushing chairs up to the counters and climbing on the back of the couch. I guess I shouldn't have been so surprised to find this. What was most disturbing was the fact that she was dropping my ceramic balls off the table onto the hardwoods! Little toot!

Eagerly anticipating snickerdoodles!

Look at all those fingerprints!! Kids and stainless steel just don't jive!

It's potty time!

So, although Ainsley isn't even 2 yet, she is asking to use the potty. Granted she has only accomplished the actual task once, but at least she is showing interest. In fact, I need to make a point to get another potty so she can have one upstairs and downstairs. She insists on at least a couple of hours of day of being "naked baby" so she can attempt to use the potty. She tells me, "Mommy, naked baby, wanna go potty!" So here I go, embarking on potty training with a little girl who is technically still too stinkin' short to use any of the potties on the market! Watching her get on and off the one we have is quite amusing. But what can I do? She wants to try and who am I to keep her from it?! This is new territory for me as I didn't even introduce Ian to the potty until he was at least 2 1/2 and I didn't really work on it until he was 3. I guess girls just prefer to get this done and over with!

Too sweet for words!

Beautiful day... beautiful boy!

Beautiful day... beautiful baby!

CHEESE!

Raggedy Ann

Ainsley has inherited my mother's Raggedy Ann and Andy. Granted, Raggedy Andy is still up in the closet as he is naked and needs some little clothes made! But Raggedy Ann has been given to Ainsley, technically, her little dress is sad and she needs some new duds too, but still... She loves her Raggedy Ann! She gives her hugs and kisses and pushes her around the house in the baby stroller she got for Christmas. It is way cute. What's even cuter though is what she calls her. Raggedy Ann must be a little difficult to say when your not quite two, so she calls her "Ragga-din", which completely cracks me up. I keep having these little mind movies of some huge, hairy Mongul warrior pillaging the countryside. "Oh no! Run and hide, it's Ragga-din coming to destroy the village!" But it is cute that she loves her "Ragga-din"!

What I love about Ian this week!

OK, by far, I love this boy's sense of humor! He absolutely cracks me up on a daily basis! He is so full of energy and life and he absolutely wears me out! The other night we went to our new Sonic to have dessert and we were playing a game of "How Well Do You Know Someone?" We were seeing how well we know Daddy. So Brady was asking questions like "What is my favorite sandwich?" Which of course I know is a Philly Cheesesteak! But anyway, we came to the question, "What is my favorite vegetable?" I was naming off things, broccoli, peppers, corn, not having any luck at all and out of the blue from the backseat I hear a very definite "BACON!" Which cracked me up so bad and made me laugh uncontrollably and tears were streaming down my face. I think it was so funny because seriously, if bacon WERE a vegetable, it would definitely be Brady's favorite!

His other moment of glory this week was while we were sitting around the living room, watching TV and just hanging out. Otis was buggin' to get fed, so I asked Ian to feed the dog. Ian was trying to explain that he already fed the dog once, so it was my turn, I countered with the fact that I had fed the entire family for three meals that day so I was exempt from dog feeding chores, at which point Ian told Brady he needed to feed the dog. Brady countered that he had been at work making money all day so he was exempt from dog feeding chores. At which point Ian said, "Prove it, show me the money Daddy!" Which of course Brady could not as it was not payday and he didn't have a wad of cash in his wallet! Nonetheless, Ian still ended up having to feed the dog, but the fact that he wanted Daddy to "show him the money" just cracked me up! That kid is just too clever for his own good sometimes!

Things I love about Ainsley this week!

OK, I'm still loving the "pat-pat" associated with all hugs! It is just so cute! She is really into kissing right now. She likes regular kisses and nose kisses. She does this thing we call "POW!", she holds up her hands or hand and says "POW!" while she hits in the air. Unfortunately this behavior is also used to cluck her brother in the head or hit me or Brady in the face. So, needless to say, "POW!" is not encouraged, but I have to admit, when she is standing in the middle of the room and she looks at me with defiance in her eyes and she lifts that little hand and yells "POW!" at me, it is REALLY hard not to giggle! If she would only just "POW!" the air!

I love the way she says "caterpillow" instead of caterpillar. I love the way she says "hippopomus" instead of hippopotamus, actually what I find really funny is Ian used to say "hippowomus", so they say it the same, just one letter difference. If you ask how she is doing, she'll respond, "I'm good." And she is very good about, "No, please" when she doesn't want something (or screaming in your face if she forgets)! She now loves Baby Einstein videos which she refers to as "Baby Dinetine"! She really seems to be grasping language at a whole new level these days. Instead of just pointing out things and naming them, she really seems to be understanding that everything has an action. When we were on our drive to Dinosaur Valley she would see goats grazing and tell me, "Look Mommy, goats eating!" or she'd see cows in the field laying down and say, "Mommy, cows sleeping!"

She is beginning to learn her alphabet and she can generally count to 8 these days. She is getting very good at colors. And the sweetest thing is she is beginning to sing, and I'm not just meaning the "Where O' Where Are You Tonight" song. She is attempting Old MacDonald, the ABC song and she is VERY good at Twinkle, Twinkle and Itsy Bitsy Spider! She is just making such leaps and bounds these days and although we still have rough days with her temper, things are getting better and she absolutely makes me laugh every single day! She's my fiery, little girl and I love her!

Dinosaur Valley--Our First Camping Trip

We had a wonderful time with our homeschool group at Dinosaur Valley State Park. We had loads of friends to play with, plenty of beautiful scenery, tasty food and a raging campfire! It was definitely VERY cold the first night and that first morning, but then the temps went up and life was great! Ian had a blast, he spent a great deal of time over at the Landau's tent, in fact, I was beginning to think they were going to adopt him full time! He had so much fun dancing and singing with her sons. We explored the river for dino tracks and Ian spent alot of time just wading, and falling in! Our clothing supply became quickly depleted and we had pants and undies hanging all over the campsite!

Ainsley did as well as could be expected. Two other families that were right next to us had toddlers as well, so there were always at least 3 pairs of eyes on the littles at all times, mostly since we had daddies there to help! She loved taking long walks and visiting other campsites and she adored the lifesize dino models by the gift shop! She is normally all about the water, but for some reason the Paluxy River was just not her thing. We bought her little swim shoes so she could wade with us, but we spent most of the time lugging around a partially wet baby! She really enjoyed the tent though, spending loads of time zipping and unzipping and crawling in and out. Of course at night I zipped all the zippers to the top where she wouldn't be able to reach them. She slept well though, which is more than I could say for myself as I was constantly worried that she was cold or Ian was cold, so I became slightly neurotic and lost sleep!

By the last day, the kids (and Mommy and Daddy) were POOPED OUT! Almost as soon as we got into the car, they were out and slept almost the whole way home. I have spent the week doing stinky, campfire laundry but I almost have it under control now! Camping was a wonderful experience, it is hard work, but it was wonderful to see Ian having so much fun and both kids exploring nature! I will be interested to see how our first solo camping trip will go. I think I would like to try Inks Lake sometime soon. But in the mean time, here are a bunch of photos from our trip in the next few posts! Enjoy!
