Ian starts basketball!

Finally! Ian has been waiting almost 3 months for this! As of Friday evening, Ian is officially taking basketball classes at the YMCA. He has practice Friday evenings and games on Saturdays. He is on a co-ed team and they are called "The Magic", which he thinks is pretty cool! He had a great time at practice and Saturday morning before the game he informed us, "I'm REALLY excited, but kind of nervous too!" We told him that was natural and all he needed to do was go and have fun! And that is exactly what he did!

The YMCA has it set up where the kids play games, but they don't keep score. The games consist of 4, 10-minute quarters and each team is supposed to have 10 players, so they can divide the teams into 2 groups of 5 and one group plays 1st and 3rd quarters and the other group plays 2nd and 4th. That way each child has the same amount of time on the court. Ian's coaches are really nice and I think this is going to be a good experience for him! I'll keep you posted on his progress! Until then, I'm just struggling with the fact that I am now officially a "soccer mom"! Next thing you know I'll be driving a mini van! ;-)

Ainsley-isms

Overheard while she was playing upstairs... "I AM KING OF THE WORLD! NOBODY CAN EXTROY ME!" I'm glad to know this! :)

2009--A year in pictures!

I was just looking through a bunch of photographs, reminiscing about everything we did last year. It made me think, hey, why not commemorate this last year with a compilation of photos! It was a great year for the Woodall household, we traveled, we learned, we read, we played and we spent a lot of time with family and friends. I really couldn't have asked for more! So without further ado...

JANUARY
-Ian turned 7! We celebrated in style with a ROCKIN' party!

-I planted my first winter garden with spinach, carrots, onions, broccoli, and cauliflower!

-The kids and I participated in President Obama's Day of Service and helped pick up trash along one of the local creeks.

FEBRUARY
-We had our annual Superbowl Party and the STEELERS WON!!!! (But it was a nailbiter!)

-I planted lettuce!

-Ian and Daddy recorded songs on Garage Band!

MARCH
-Ian started attending a monthly bowling club for homeschoolers!

-I helped host my good friend's wedding shower and made the Mayor's Famous Banana Pudding! And no, you still can't have the recipe!

-Ainsley had her first experience flying kites!

-We made "recreational dough"!

APRIL
-Ian got to check out King Tut at the Dallas Museum of Art!

-We stopped in to visit Grandmama!

-And like all good Texans, we stopped on the side of the freeway for our obligatory roadside bluebonnet photos!

-We got cocoons! Then we had butterflies and moths galore!

-We dyed Easter eggs and they were AWESOME!

-We planted our summer garden and got our hands dirty.

MAY
-We went camping at Palmetto Snake, I mean State Park!

-We visited the Butterfly Farm with our friends and had a blast! Who says homeschoolers don't socialize?

JUNE
-We attended outdoor concerts and sang along!

-The kids and I spent a week at the cabin with Mom, Liz and Auntie Mayann! We watched the birds and the deer, ate good food, waded in the creek, played board games, made clay sculptures and played music!

-I took the kids to see the petroglyphs.

-Papa and Nana moved to Round Rock!

-And the most important thing that happened in June? My baby girl turned 3 and she was the cutest hula dancer ever!

JULY
-We celebrated the 4th of July with Nana!

-Daddy played gigs!

-We went to Krause Springs to cool off!

-We got to see an old friend!

-We enjoyed the fruits of our labor (or really veggies of our labor)!

AUGUST
-Brady and I packed up the kids, the dog and the drums and traveled to Ruidoso with our good friends and his bandmates, Paul and Chelle, for a tiny tour of New Mexico where...
Ian hung out with the boys,

The band gigged,

and we took the kids to White Sands and they sledded the dunes!

-Brady and I celebrated 15 years of marriage!

-We finally met our English relatives Billy and Nora!!

-We went to Schlitterbahn and had a BLAST!

-We made SLIME (or as Ian's prefers to call it, "troll bogeys")!

SEPTEMBER
-Brady and I took a trip to Sin City for a much needed vacation where we...

rocked out with Santana!

found Elvis!

and went sky-high!

-Ian finally lost the "freak tooth"!

-Ainsley went a little wonky!

-Brady and I decided that after 15 years of marriage we deserved a party! So we renewed our vows, 70's Vegas-style, with "Nelvis" officiating!

After all these years he still makes my heart go pitter pat (especially when he's in a bad 70's tux and aviator glasses!)

Isn't it great to have somebody who loves you for who you are?

OCTOBER
-I packed the kids up again and headed to New Mexico for one last road trip where we...
visited with Mamaw,

and saw ALIENS!

rode a train,

climbed Tent Rocks

and were rewarded with this view!

Then we drove out to Abo...

checked out the ruins...

and of course went to Balloon Fiesta!

-We managed to get home just in time for me to crank out costumes so we could get our trick or treat on!

NOVEMBER
-We went to Sea World where the kids got to pet dolphins...

and meet Jack Hanna!

-Sadly, we lost Otis, the bestest, goofiest, ol' doggy in the world and he will be missed terribly!

-But on a brighter note, we adopted two new pups, Penny and Nigel, from the shelter. They are now warm, well-fed and well-loved. It's nice to give someone a second chance and I think Otis would approve!

DECEMBER
-We played in the leaves!

-We made stalactites.

-We smiled pretty for Christmas pictures...

or not!

-We made gingerbread!

-We had a wonderful Christmas with family!

-Santa brought Ainsley that shrunken head she had been wanting so badly and

Ian became a ROCKSTAR!

And there you have it, a recap of 2009. We didn't strike it rich, but we sure had fun! I hope that you and yours have a wonderful, prosperous and most of all, fulfilling 2010! Just remember, life isn't about the stuff, it's about the time you share with the ones you love! That being said, life is great!
