OK, see, life is just SO busy with these kids. Here we are in March and I'm just now getting to the late Sept. and early Oct. posts! Please bear with me as I try my best to catch up and still post the current stuff as well!
Most of you know, but if you didn't, I'm a total 80's rocker girl. So when I heard that Iron Maiden and Megadeth were coming to town, I bugged Brady until he was able to find tickets so I could take the boy to see his first Iron Maiden show! Like his mother, the boy has a penchant for 80's rock!
The two of us headed out in search of ear-splitting metal! The concert was at a newer venue in town, the Austin 360 Amphitheater which is at the Circuit of the Americas. Turns out it was a pretty decent outdoor venue, if you don't consider the fact that it's a bazillion miles away, the parking sucks and the security staff sucks! The sound was pretty good though and we were able to manage a decent view from the top of the hill. I really didn't want to get down too close and in the nitty gritty of it all since this was the boy's first metal show.
We missed most of Megadeth, which is fine. I can live without Megadeth, but Iron Maiden was great. As always, they had the theatrics, lots of pyro and weird skeleton creatures.
I did get a little nervous at one point as there was some weird, drunk guy messing with people. He almost got pommeled by the guys in front of us! I was really hoping that Ian wasn't going to have to witness his first ass-kicking at the concert. Luckily, the guys were pretty cool and managed to diffuse the situation, but then the drunk came stumbling back toward us. He stared and the boy and me for a minute and I gave him my best "stink-eye" and he eventually moved along. I was relieved. Concerts are great fun, until someone gets crap-faced! All in all though, the boy really enjoyed the show. He even knew a few of the songs! (Yay me for enriching my boy's life with 80's metal!) When we were leaving the show, I asked him what he thought and this was his answer…
I'm hoping we get some more good bands coming through so I can take my favorite boy to concerts! It's so awesome that he's big enough to hang with me now!
